Robotaxi Rides in Austin
Attendees from cities without Waymo service got their first robotaxi experiences during SXSW. The consensus: impressive when it works, concerning when it doesn’t.
Multiple riders reported:
- Smooth highway travel
- Confusing behavior at complex intersections
- Occasional overly-cautious stops
- One “panic stop” when the car misidentified a plastic bag as an obstacle
